National Lighthouse Day!

Date August 6, 2008

On August 7, 1789, Congress approved an Act for the establishment and support of lighthouses, beacons, buoys and public piers.

In 1989, for the Celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the signing of that Act

and in honor of the commissioning of the first Federal lighthouse,Congress passed a resolution designating

August 7

National Lighthouse Day.
