Friends of Oak Island Lighthouse to offer tours

Date March 22, 2007

From: Wilmington Star

Lighthouse lovers take note: Visitors will soon be able to peek inside a landmark previously closed to the public.

The Friends of Oak Island Lighthouse will be offering twice weekly tours inside the structure beginning in May.

While parts of the lighthouse are still off limits or only available by
appointment, the new Friends tours will provide a regular time for
visits and a guided tour of some areas. The group was still working on
tour details at its meeting March 14.

My family and I will be visiting Oak Island next week for spring break, 04-07-2007 through 04/12/2007. While there we are interested in visiting some of the lighthouses in the area. My middle child actually has a school assignment to do a report and build a model lighthouse and we thought this would be an excellent opportunity for him to not only see one but be able to get the history and possibly be able to tour one as well. If you could provide any information on lighthouses and tours it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
