National Lighthouse Day!
On August 7, 1789, Congress approved an Act for the establishment and support of lighthouses, beacons, buoys and public piers. In 1989, for the Celebration of the 200th Anniversary of the signing of that Act and in honor of the commissioning of the first Federal lighthouse,Congress passed a resolution designating August 7 National Lighthouse Day. Morris Island Lighthouse Repairs
The Morris Island Lighthouse in South Carolina is undergoing some renovations that should help protect it from further erosion. For quite some time, the Morris Island Lighthouse has been surrounded by water. Taylor Brothers Marine Construction is installing a wall around the lighthouse. Some pictures from the construction project can be found here.
